Piaggio shook a particularly classy ace out of its sleeve at the EICMA in the fall of 2022 - the retread Vespa GTV. The latest model of the popular GTV proved to be an extraordinary eye-catcher there. For Vespa has boldly and creatively leaned out of the window with the design of the new GTV. While its predecessors were designed with a classic, almost staid elegance, the GTV 2023 is sportier than ever before.
The significant unique selling points - the headlight on the front fender and the open tubular handlebars - have been retained. The vehicle is available in two different color versions. Beige and black. That doesn't sound so exciting at first. But the beige version in particular, in combination with the black add-on parts, creates an extremely sporty look. The mirrors, headlight ring, taillight frame, grab handle, trim strips, exhaust trim, swingarm cover and handlebar ends do not feature any sparkling chrome ex works. Everything is finished in matte black. This also applies to the Vespa emblems, the rims and the footrests.
In stark contrast are the orange accents. Graphics on both flanks, cascade inserts and the windshield (there may have been some changes to the final version) reinforce the sporty character of the vehicle with their garish coloring.
This time, the GTV has been given the nickname SEI GIORNI because it does not have the number 6, which has been seen in large letters on the last generations of the GTV.
Apart from the visual appearance, the GTV has also undergone some changes, even if some purists will not quite like them. The speedometer, which is exposed on the tubular handlebars, is now fully digital, and the lighting shines completely in LED power. The keyless system saves you the often tedious rummaging for the key in your trouser or jacket pocket, especially when wearing gloves, when you want to start the more than 23 hp 300cc HPE engine.
The only small downer on what is otherwise an absolutely top-of-the-line vehicle is the fact that the chassis is not the same as the new GTS generation, but still relies on that of the previous version. All in all, however, this does not diminish the driving pleasure in any way.
The new GTV strikes an extremely successful balance between tradition and the future.
